Nominated by the 2006 Detroit Music Awards for OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ GROUP

2007 Nominee for OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ ARTIST/GROUP by the Detroit Music Awards

"GEQ" is one of the hottest up and coming jazz ensembles from the Detroit, Michigan area. Composer / Trumpeter Guymon Ensley, formed the band in 2001. In a time when established jazz "groups" are scarce, GEQ is that rare gem that plays classic jazz, be-bop and nu-jazz music of the highest artistic quality. The group continues to deliver, setting standards in musicianship and professionalism.

The band’s high energy has been compared respectfully to the likes of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the John Coltrain and Miles Davis ensembles and has received acceptance from worldwide audiences. In 2006, GEQ performed to an international audience in Negril, Jamaica at the Grand Lido Resort. 2004 was the outstandingly beautiful Hawaii Islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii (the Big Island) aboard the Norwegian Cruise Liner "Pride Of America." 2002 was the first international experience for GEQ aboard the Carnival Cruise Liner "Destiny" in the Southern Caribbean.

* GEQ Jazz Entertainment

GEQ Jazz Entertainment provides groups of musicians for entertainment at your function. Whether it’s an event that needs a single piano player for background music or an eighteen piece big band, GEQ Jazz will meet your entertainment needs.

The following GEQ Jazz Entertainment groups, brings you the best in musicianship and professionalism.

”GEQ JAZZ TRIO” performs classic jazz for the smaller, more intimate venue. Guymon is featured playing jazz standard pieces with only a bass and keyboard for a quieter, yet highly affective presentation.

“THREE OF A KIND” featuring drummer/vocalist, Al Livingston is a threesome that brings the best of the Motown Sound, R&B, smooth jazz and blues. Livingston does Marvin Gaye, David Ruffin, Stevie Wonder and other great soul singers of the era. This versatile group can go from “rocking the house” with the hottest popular dance tunes to the smoothest of contemporary jazz for background.

"BEN'S FRIENDS JAZZ ORCHESTRA" is an eighteen piece entity that bares the legendary sound of the great bands of the "big band" era. Listen . . . close your eyes and you'll go back in time, a time when there was the sophistication and elegance of "The Duke" and of course the "Swingingest Band In All The Land," the Count Basie Band. You'll hear it all when Ben's Friends hits the bandstand. The band's leader, saxophonist Ben Pruitt often surprises the audiences with his own style of blues vocals which often brings the house down. The "sultry" Shiron Denise and the "Sassy" DeeAnna Weeden both bring their own vocal stylings that make this band one that you must hear.

“TRIPLE THREAT” is a trio featuring Guymon Ensley, Jon Pettiford and vocalist Tonya Hood. The three combine to bring the best in exciting sequenced music. The rhythm section is sequenced under the trumpet and smooth fluegel horn stylings of Ensley. Pettiford adds the keyboards and sound effects to bring an amazing sound of a full band. Ms. Hood brings that sultry and exciting sound to complete the picture. From R&B and smooth jazz, to be-bop and Swing, this trio entertains listeners that appreciate a cross section of music genres.

“DJ, MICHAEL AUSTON” kicks out the best in dance music that appeals to all ages. Groovin’ to the oldies or dancing to the more contemporary appeals, Michael does it all.
